On Monday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. (Salone time), Strong Girls Evolution will be collaborating with partners to present a webinar on Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Sierra Leone under the theme “Give to Gain: How Can We Harness the Responsible Use of AI to Advance Gender Equality?”
This timely conversation brings together thought leaders and practitioners committed to shaping an inclusive and responsible AI future in Africa. Among our distinguished speakers is Engr. Kodou Jeng, a seasoned telecommunications engineer, project manager, and STEM advocate with over 20 years of professional experience in fiber optics, microwave radio transmission, and network operations at Gamcel. She currently serves as Senior Manager of Transmission.
Kodou is also the Founder and CEO of Wi-STEM Africa and the Founder and President of Women in STEM Gambia. Through these initiatives, she continues to champion opportunities for women and girls in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and emerging technologies across Africa. Leveraging mentorship, research, STEM chapters, conferences, innovation competitions, and AI-focused programs, she has empowered thousands of young women and students to pursue careers in STEM and innovation, helping to build a more inclusive pipeline of future talent.
In addition to her professional and mentorship work, she contributes to continental development as a Committee Member of the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN) under the African Union and as a Board Member of EDUVISION Ghana. In these roles, she actively advocates for the use of technology and artificial intelligence to address challenges in education and strengthen the digital economy.
An internationally recognized mentor and award-winning leader, Kodou has been listed among the 100 Most Influential Women in Africa and named STEM Woman of the Year at the Africa Digital Economy Awards. UNESCO has also recognized her as one of the trailblazing African women in technology and artificial intelligence. Her impact has been further highlighted through her feature in Five by Five, a book by Dr. Bettina Boohene-Andah that celebrates the stories of inspirational African women.
Recently appointed to the Thematic Working Group on AI Talent and Skills by the Africa AI Council Secretariat, Smart Africa, Kodou continues to contribute to shaping Africa’s AI talent ecosystem. Her work reflects a deep commitment to inclusive development, digital transformation, and empowering young girls and future generations through STEM and artificial intelligence.
