On Saturday, 2nd July 2022, Women First Digital hosted influencers and organisations working in the SRHR space at Bintumani Hotel.
The aim of the event was to identify barriers in terms of making SRHR information easily accessible online. The said circle was chaired by Dr. Enu Otsyina, who is the Country Consultant of Women First Digital in Ghana. Dr. Otsyina engaged the participants with the aim of promoting better working relations and to build a strategic road map with regards to the work of Women First Digital in Sierra Leone. Eunice Naffie Mustapha, who is the Country Consultant of Women First Digital Sierra Leone, facilitated a dialogue on barriers in terms of projecting ‘Digital Media’ as a tool of change.
Present were influencers like Fantacee Wiz Kamara, Sarah Kallay, Precious Jah-Tucker and organisations like Girls’ Plus (represented by Mrs. Asmaa James), Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone, Transformative Women’s Initiative, Strong Girls Evolution, Prevention First Initiative, Men’s Up Initiative and Strong Women Strong Girls. In attendance was also Kadijatu Barrie, who had presented the Youth Manifesto at the 10th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights.
Barriers identified in the use of digital media as an advocacy tool in Sierra Leone included poor branding, inadequate collaborations, poor storytelling, inadequate expertise, poor content presentation, poor investment in marketing and so much more.
Women First Digital’s 2022 cohort of volunteers, especially the programs team, were very instrumental in planning the circle. As an organisation, Women First Digital runs 3 websites: findmymethod.org, safe2choose.org and pinkshoes.org with the aim of making SRHR information and education easily accessible online.
